Rift Valley University Senate has conducted its second 2019/20 academic year regular meetings starting from March 6 – March 7, 2020, at its Head Office located around Gotera . The first Senate meeting that was conducted in August 2019. The Second biannual meetings commenced with the program introduction made by Dr. Abebe Gemechu. After briefly introducing the program, Dr. Abebe invited Professor Derebssa Dufera, Rift valley University President to make an opening speech. Professor Derebsaa in his speech reminded the Senators the up and downs the university has gone through in the last two decades, and the recent progress that the university has exhibited. After making few remarks, Professor Derebssa invited Vice Presidents to present their respective Bureau activity reports. Accordingly Ato Gadissa Bekele, Vice President for Academy, Dr. Abebe Gemechu, Vice President for Research, Technology Transfer and Partnership, briefly presented their respective Bureau activities. The reports of the Vice Presidents mainly focused on what has been undertaken since the first Senate meetings.
Dr. Tadesse Bsriso, Vice President for Strategic Studies and Institutional Development also briefly reminded the Senators that the strategic plan of 2015 is about to end at June, 2020, and informed them to prepare new strategic plan that would take into account the recent government policy directions and the developments exhibited at Rift Valley at various levels. Campus Deans from various campuses and Distance Education Program Coordinator presented their six month performance activities, including the challenges they have gone through. The Senate members critically analyzed the performance against the plan and have forwarded the ways that would help the university to overcome those impediments.
The high level leadership of the university entertained all the questions raised by the participants in a democratic manner. At the end of the gathering, campuses Dean and Distance program Coordinator were informed to prepare their respective campus strategic plan and send to the Head Office for the preparation of university wide strategic Plan.
The Senate meeting was wrapped with closing remark made Dr. Tadesse Berisso. Dr. Tadesse reminded the Senators to aggressively work in areas of quality education and in delivering quality service to the stakeholders. The Senators on their part promised to work hard in attaining the planned activities and in advancing the mission of the university.
